Boy about town

Today...

May 21, 2006 / Sunday / 1:50 p.m.

Tomorrow is Tippi's birthday again, and within the span of one (short) year, from the time Theo was only about 5 months old until today, so much has really changed as far as Theo is concerned. At around this time last year, all Theo could do was roll around in bed (and vomit occasionally). Today, he has started to brush his teeth, and as you can see from the photo above, he's now a man (or boy) about town. Pretty soon, he'll be bringing home girls (I hope it doesn't happen too quickly, hehehe...).

Tippi and Ian will be coming over later to spend the night here in Tsukuba as well as to celebrate Tippi's birthday. Mommy D will be preparing some mean spareribs for dinner and we'll also have a cake ready, while tomorrow, we'll have lunch somewhere, courtesy of the celebrant.

Theo couldn't say it yet, but I bet he's excited that Ian and Tippi will be coming tonight. They certainly enjoy each other's company.

Theo: Live in Ueno!

May 5, 2006 / Friday / 12:14 p.m.

As planned, we went to Ueno Park in Tokyo yesterday to provide Theo a chance to feed the pigeons. Expectedly, he was all worked up and excited when the pigeons started crowding around him and jostling for the popcorn that we scattered wherever he went.

The popcorn wasn't only for the pigeons, however, as you can see from the photo above. Theo also ate with them, as a way of bonding with the birds by sharing their meal (yeah right...). He also chased them around, as if wanting to give each of them a hug and a kiss but the birds weren't too happy about it, obviously. Nonetheless, it was really an enjoyable day for him...and for us, too, including Tippi and Ian.

I have uploaded a video file which you can download into your hard drive and watch over and over again. It's about 7 megabytes and runs for less than a minute and a half. It shows Theo feeding the pigeons with Tippi and Ian in the background.

After a few hours in the park, Tippi and Ian treated us to TGIF for a sumptous lunch to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Then we headed to Akihabara, Tokyo's "Electric Town" where they all had coffee while I searched around for some bargain computer parts, assembling and fixing computers being one of my hobbies.

We returned to Tsukuba at around 5:30 p.m. By the time the Tsukuba Express train left Akihabara, Theo was already fast asleep, drained by all the fun and excitement of the day. In fact, he was so tired that he slept for 15 hours, waking up only at 10 p.m. for about 30 minutes before falling back to sleep again.

We don't know when we'll return to Ueno Park. What we know, however, is that while Theo might have already forgotten that day, this blog will someday remind him that on May 4, 2006, he fed the pigeons for the first time.
